5 Chimney Warning Signs You Can't Afford to Ignore

  1. Cracked or Crumbling Mortar: Mortar is the cement-like material that holds the bricks or stones of your chimney together. If you notice any cracks, crumbling, or missing mortar.
  2. Loose or Missing Bricks/Stones: If you spot any loose or missing bricks or stones in your chimney, it’s a sign that the structural integrity may be compromised
  3. Leaning Chimney: A leaning chimney is a serious issue that can indicate foundation problems or significant deterioration.
  4. Water Damage: If you notice any signs of water damage around your chimney, such as stains on the ceiling or walls near the fireplace, efflorescence (white powdery deposits), or a musty odor, it’s essential to remedy.
  5. Chimney Cap Issues: The chimney cap is the protective cover at the top of your chimney. If it’s damaged, missing, or improperly installed, it can lead to water intrusion, animal nests, and debris buildup.

Smith Builders replaced our roof and re-pointed our chimney. They are the best contractor we have ever worked with in the 32 years we have been in our home. Great communicators, flexible, professional before, during and after the work was completed. The team worked well together and we had a good chance to get to know some of the team members as we hosted a barbecue for them during the two days they were onsite. They can put away a few hamburgers!! Thanks!!

When Do You Need To Start Considering A Roof Replacement?

Have you Noticed Any Of The Following On Your Roof?

  • Your roof looks old, worn or discolored.
  • Shingles are cracked, curled at the edges or balding (losing their granules).
  • Moss growing on the roof surface.
  • The roof was installed 15-20 years ago.

If you’ve noticed any of these, it may be time to think about replacing your roof. If you aren’t sure, feel free to reach out and we’d be happy to discuss the condition of your roof. It’s better to call a year too early than wait until you notice a leak through your ceiling. We can discuss the condition of your home and make a plan to address any issues we notice.
